Story
The tragedy of Dr Calvin Murphy
In 1955, Dr. Calvin Murphy embarked on his life’s work: using experimental particle beams to materialize the dead from their lingering atomic leftovers.
Because, naturally, that seemed like a good idea at the time.
After years of questionable science and even more questionable ethics, Murphy perfected his device and spent the next decade scouring the globe for “particle residue” from long-departed heroes he wished to resurrect.
The results were… mixed. His subjects returned, yes — but tethered eternally to his machinery and perhaps regretting the invitation. Still, four legendary figures now served him loyally enough.
Then disaster struck. The machine built to cheat death rewarded its creator with a generous dose of lethal radiation. Unable to resurrect himself (a small oversight), Dr. Murphy did the next best thing: uploaded his consciousness into an experimental computer.
Years passed. Circuits hummed. And at last, Calvin Murphy was back online — slightly more digital, equally unhinged, and determined to finish what he started.
Short on funds but never on ambition, he turned to mercenary work — his latest contract leading him, and his resurrected entourage, straight into the depths of the infamous Hollow Earth.
Because if history has taught us anything, it’s that digging deeper always makes things better.
